Product description: Nataraja is the Hindu God Shiva in his cosmic dance form. His dance Anandatandava on the demon Apasmara within the circle of fire symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction. Shiva's dance has two cycles - the Lasya (the gentle form of dance), associated with the creation of the world, and the Tandava (the vigorous form of dance), associated with the destruction. The circle of fire around Shiva in which he performs his dance is called the prabhamandala (circle of fire). The circle of fire emerges from the two makaras (mythical water beasts) on each end. The dance of Nataraja-Anandatandava took place in Thillai, Chidambaram, and the temple has images of the 108 poses of Lord Shiva’s dance.

The bronze statue depicts Lord Nataraja with his right leg slightly bent that helps as a supporting gesture for his fierceful dance. He performs his dance standing on Apasmara the demon lying down on an inverted lotus placed on a rectangle base. The Apasmara on which the Lord performs his dance symbolizes the evils of ignorance and ego, and the third eye on Shiva’s forehead represents wisdom. His rear left hand has the drum or damaru - srishti (creation), and his rear right hand has the fire bowl that symbolizes Samhara (destruction). The right forehand of Nataraja shows Abhaya ( fearlessness), and his left forehand is pointing downwards with the palm facing inwards which represents concealment, and that he is the creator of Maya. The flying hair of Lord Shiva shows his fiery dance, and the river Goddess Ganges is tied in his hair to calm the river for the regeneration of life.  The statue of bronze Nataraja is one of a kind statue depicting incredible details of the attributes of Nataraja and is made using the lost-wax method; an expert craftsmanship by our South Indian bronze artisan.
