Product description: Goddess Mariamman is the Hindu Goddess of Rain, and in Tamil language "Mari" means Rain, and "Amman" means Mother Goddess". She is a manifestation of Goddess Parvathi, and according to the local community traditions in many villages in South India, she is worshipped as Pidari, Gramadevata, Kaval deivam and in many more names and forms. Women seek her blessings for fertility, and safe child birth and provide glass bangles as offerings to the Goddess. Mariamman worship to cure illnesses and diseases like small pox, chicken pox is very common among people in the rural areas of South India.

The bronze statue portrays Mariamman seated on an inverted lotus in lalitasana pose. Her rear right hand holds a drum with a serpent tied around, and her left hand holds a noose (pasha). Her front right hand holds a knife, and left hand has a small rice bowl. These objects in hand represent her divine attributes and powers. Mariamman is often depicted wearing a tall flaming crown with a serpent hood on top, which is a distinctive feature of her iconography. The face of Mariamman has a  benevolent expression, reflecting her role as a motherly, and protective deity. The snake hood and the knife are removable pieces from the statue. The beauty of a Mariamman statue lies in its rich cultural and religious significance, as well as its artistic and symbolic elements. The presence of the statue evokes a feeling of timelessness and cultural continuity, and  becomes a source of inspiration and strength. The statue of panchaloha bronze Mariamman is one of a kind statue made using the lost-wax method; an expert craftsmanship by our South Indian bronze artisan.
