Product description: Bhikshantana Shiva is a Bhairava form of Lord Shiva as a supreme mendicant; one of the famous form of Lord Shiva and does not have any temples or place of worship. Though the word mendicant refers to a beggar, it is mostly referred to religious followers or supreme sages.
The story of Bhikshatana Shiva: Lord Brahma challenged Lord Shiva’s supremacy over the universe. Though everybody accepts that Lord Shiva is all powerful, Lord Brahma did not. So Lord Shiva in anger cut down one of Brahma’s heads. But Lord Brahma survives the act of Shiva and gets back to life. Due to the most sinful act of Brahmahatya, Lord Shiva has to wander the whole universe in a nude form asking for bhikshata (begging with alms bowl) until he atones for his sins reaching the holy city of Varanasi. Some believe that Lord Shiva roams around the world observing people in different walks of their life in this form.
The brass statue portrays Shiva standing on a pedestal wearing sandals, and followed by Nandi (bull) and demonic attendant. Shiva has four arms, and his rear arms holds holds a damaru (small drum), and a trident. His front hands holds a stick, and an alms bowl. There are many serpents tied around his body, and the statue has all the iconographical chacteristics of Lord Shiva in Bhikshantana form.
