Product description: The brass statue portrays Ayyappan sitting on an inverted lotus pedestal with both his knees bent forward in a yogic posture. His right hand shows Jnana mudra, and his left hand is resting on his knee, a typical posture of Ayyappa. The golden belt is seen tied around his legs as a support, to provide a comfortable sitting position to the Lord. The face of the Lord has a smiling expression, and he is seen wearing the golden bell around his neck, and the clothing is draped in a particular style which is typical of Ayyappa; indeed a beautiful statue of Ayyappa in a fine golden yellow finish.
The story of Lord Ayyappan - Lord Ayyappan is the son of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The union of Vishnu in his mythical form Mohini with Lord Shiva gave birth to Ayyappa. Therefore Ayyappa is called Hari Hara Putran. He is also known as Manikandan as his parents tied a golden bell around his neck soon after his birth, and left him abandoned on the banks of the Pampa river. Ayyappa was raised by King Rajashekara, Pantalam King of Kerala who was childless at that time and took Ayyappa to his palace. Later the King had his own biological son, and was happy to see both his sons growing together in a princely manner learning all the martial arts, and many shastras. Ayyappa was outstanding in all his skills, and his divine nature was known to the Kingdom when the queen fell ill, and was in need of Tiger's milk to heal her sickness. Ayyappa immediately told the King that he would go to the forest, and return to the kingdom with Tiger milk. Ayyappa met his father Shiva in the forest, and with the blessings of Lord Shiva, Ayyappa sat on the Tiger who was none other than Lord Indra in the form of Tiger, and returned to his kingdom. After seeing Ayyappa on the tiger, the King understood the divine nature of his son and said that he would build a temple for him, after which Ayyappa disappeared leaving for his heavenly abode. The famous Ayyappan temple was built by King Rajashekara on a hill top in the dense forest of Sabarimala amidst the eighteen hills. There are eighteen steps that leads to the shrine, and Lord Parasuram sculpted the figure of Lord Ayyappa and installed on the eve of Makara Sankranti. Devotees follow a strict religious 41 day penance worshipping Ayyappa in a disciplined manner before they start their journey to Sabarimala, Kerala. The devotees chant "Swamiyae Saranam Ayyappa", and many religious songs praising the Lord during their journey up the rocky hills to worship Lord Ayyappan.
