Product description: Kamakshi Amman is the form of the Hindu Goddess Parvathi, and consort of Lord Shiva is the Goddess of fertility, devotion, progeny, and protection. She is an incarnation of Shakthi, the Universal Mother, and also the ultimate form of Goddess Shri Lalitha Maha Tripurasundari. The word Kama means desire or love, and Akshi means eyes. Thus, Kamakshi is referred to as the the "love-eyed" goddess of kanchipuram. The famous Kamakshi Amman temple is in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, and hence she is referred to as Kanchi Kamakshi. She is worshipped as the Parabrahma Swaroopini, and it is also said that her furious form Ugra Swaroopini was pacified by Adhi Shankara as he wrote the Saundarya Lahiri to make the Goddess peaceful. Kamakshi is a symbol of love, and associated with fertility and motherly care.

The wood carving depicts Kamakshi seated on a throne in padmasana pose. She has four hands, each holding an object that is typical of Kamakshi Amman. Her rear hands holds a goad, and a noose. Her front right hand holds a bunch of flowered arrows, and left hand holds a sugarcane bow. The parrot sitting on her symbolizes love and fertility. The face of Kamakshi has a gentle smile with a serene expression embodying a sense of timeless wisdom and benevolence. Kamakshi is depicted as the goddess with loving and compassionate eyes, fulfilling the desires of her devotees. She is adorned with layers of beautiful jewelries, a tall decorated crown, and the folds and layers of her clothing are expertly rendered creating a lifelike texture. The crescent moon on her head is a symbol of divine energy that governs the cosmos, and the moon also symbolizes her connection with Lord Shiva. Yoni placed at the bottom represents women’s womb, and yoni worship is very commonly practiced in Kamakshi worship. Metaphorically, the womb represents Prakriti or nature, and she is worshipped in the form of womb. The kirtimukha arch, hanging lamps gives a splendid appearance to the overall wood carving. The texture of the carving invites touch, with its smooth surface contrasting with the fine detailing throughout the panel. Great attention to details has been given throughout the panel that best explains a fine workmanship by our team of artists. Wall hanging hardware is attached to the panel.
