Product description: Three elephants move together through the heart of a single hibiscus log in this hand-carved sculpture. The artisan hollowed the block from the inside and left the rugged outer bark untouched, so the herd appears to emerge from the living wood itself. Each elephant has its own character. One kneels with its trunk curled, the center elephant strides forward with its trunk raised high, and the leader lowers its head as it walks on. Flowing tool marks across the background suggest wind-swept grass and give the scene a strong sense of motion. The deep olive-brown heartwood forms the elephants’ bodies, while the pale cream sapwood highlights the ears, tusks and trunks, so the contrast comes from the wood rather than from paint. Because every log is different, no two pieces are alike, and the one you receive is the one pictured. The sculpture stands on its own and makes a striking centerpiece for a console table, mantel, bookshelf or office. In many cultures, elephants represent strength, wisdom, family and good fortune, which makes this a meaningful piece wherever placed.
