Product description: The brass statue portrays Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati seated on the sacred bull  Nandi, Vrushabha deva. Shiva has four hands, the rear two hands holds a goad, and a prancing deer. His front hands are in abaya and varada mudra. Parvati holds a flower in her right hand, and the left hand is resting on her lap. This statue is a significant idol worshipped on the days of Pradosham showing respect to Nandi who protected the Devas and the Asuras from the poisonous substance evolved from the churning of the ocean. Hence worshipping  Lord Shiva and Parvati with Nandi on the day of Pradosham removes our sins, and one attains the blessings of the Lord. The statue is indeed a beautiful piece with a golden yellow finish and has fine details.

The story of Pradosham: Pradosha or Pradosham is an auspicious day dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Pradosham falls on the 13th day of the lunar fortnight in the Hindu calendar which is the trayodasi. The story of pradosham is connected with the churning of the ocean by the Devas and Asuras to obtain the immortal nectar or amrutha. During this process a deadly poisonous substance came out, that destroyed the surroundings. The devas, asuras and other beings fled away. They seeked Shiva for help, and even before Shiva protected the Devas and Asuras by swallowing the poison, it was Vrushabha deva, the bull of god Shiva who protected them by giving shelter under his own tongue by stretching it out. Due to this act of Nandi, Lord Shiva said that his bull should be worshipped along with him on the days of pradosham. This event took place on a Saturday trayodashi, and hence Shani pradosham (Pradosham that falls on a Saturday) is considered very auspicious and celebrated in temples with the procession of Nandi on which Shiva and Parvati are seated.
