Product description: India, known for its rich culture and spirituality, is home to a myriad of gods and goddesses, each with their unique attributes and significance. Among the many revered deities, three goddesses stand out prominently in the Hindu pantheon, they are Meenakshi, Kamakshi, and Vishalakshi. The three goddesses represent the multifaceted nature of the divine feminine in Hinduism. They embody the qualities of strength, compassion, wisdom, and the power to fulfill the desires of their devotees.
Meenakshi Amman, a revered Hindu deity is an avatar of Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. The carving depicts Meenakshi in her typical standing pose on a lotus, adorned with layers of beautiful jewelries, right hand holds a lotus, a symbol of purity, and a parrot sitting on her right shoulder, a bird associated with love and devotion in Hindu mythology. The face of Meenakshi has a serene countenance that conveys both divinity and compassion. Her expressive eyes, and gentle smile, portrays a sense of wisdom and benevolence. Goddess Meenakshi is a symbol of strength, courage, and devotion.
Kamakshi Amman is the form of the Hindu Goddess Parvathi, and consort of Lord Shiva is the Goddess of fertility, devotion, progeny, and protection. She is an incarnation of Shakthi, the Universal Mother, and also the ultimate form of Goddess Shri Lalitha Maha Tripurasundari. The wood carving depicts Kamakshi seated on a throne in padmasana pose. She has four hands, each holding an object that is typical of Kamakshi Amman. Her rear hands holds a goad, and a noose. Her front right hand holds a bunch of flowered arrows, and left hand holds a sugarcane bow. The parrot sitting on her symbolizes love and fertility. The face of Kamakshi has a gentle smile with a serene expression, and is depicted as the goddess with loving and compassionate eyes fulfilling the desires of her devotees. She is adorned with layers of beautiful jewelries, a tall decorated crown, and the folds and layers of her clothing are expertly rendered creating a lifelike texture. The crescent moon on her head is a symbol of divine energy that governs the cosmos, and the moon also symbolizes her connection with Lord Shiva. Yoni placed at the bottom represents women’s womb, and yoni worship is very commonly practiced in Kamakshi worship. Kamakshi is a symbol of love, and associated with fertility and motherly care.
Vishalakshi Devi is a form of the Hindu Goddess Parvati, and the consort of Vishwanath Shiva. She is revered as the Goddess of Kasi (City of Varanasi), which is one of the holy cities as per Hinduism. The wood carving of Visalakshi depicts her standing tall and graceful on a lotus, and the goddess emanates an aura of divine beauty. The face of Visalakshi has a gentle smile with a calm expression and her eyes seem to hold a depth of compassion and understanding. She is adorned with layers of beautiful jewelries, a tall decorated crown, and holds lotus flowers in her upper hands. The front hands holds the rosary (stringed beads of rudraksh), and a holy water pot symbolizing her devotion to Lord Shiva. The lingam, and Ganesh on the lotus is a symbolic representation of Shiva and Ganesh present in the main sanctum with Visalakshi being the primary deity at Kasi Visalakshi temple. Visalakshi is a symbol of divine grace and compassion.
The three goddesses are not only deities of worship, but also sources of inspiration for people, reminding us of the profound role of the divine feminine in our lives and in the universe. Certainly a beautiful wood carving that captures the essence and grace of the iconic Hindu goddesses.
